Undertow Dance is a group of people who collaborate and dance together, initiated by Nicole Loeffler-Gladstone.

A manifesto, of sorts:

Improvisation is an expression of embodied wisdom and resilience. It's a liberatory practice that frees us from hierarchies of power by celebrating our agency, contradictions and complexities. It's the foundation of our creative practice.

Creative work must be deeply influenced by sensitivity to current events, cultural flux and historical context.

The choreography itself is not activism.

But its generation is a social practice that helps us imagine new ways of existing in an incomprehensible world.

It (the choreography) begins in the world we see and shifts into the world we want to see.

We want dance that is physically and financially accessible, but emotionally, aesthetically and intellectually challenging.

We value illumination over transparency.
